This will be a bit long, ’cause it was an awesome evening….

  • Show started half an hour late for reasons we never quite understood
  • Our seats … wow. We were unlucky in the original homepage lottery for tickets, striking out at least 5 times. Turns out that’s because some folks ended up with 3-4 sets of 4 tickets. Shine found us someone with 3 sets to sell and we bought one. My friend Diana did the purchasing and ticket printing. And when she came back and said “11th row dead center, any good?” we were like heck yeah, because we figured the tickets would actually be 7th row, and a great view. But ever so often I would take a peek at TicketCamp and saw that nothing below row 10 was offered, which made me hope we’d be 2nd row. And sure enough, we were!
  • Shine noticed that in front of us were four impeccably dressed and coiffed young ladies, then the foreigners (that’s us!) and the four seats behind us were empty. Made for an interesting view from the stage, I’m sure.
  • There was a guy on crutches in the front row. He still managed to really rock out!
  • Show started a bit oddly — with Shichimi chanting “Encore!” from backstage, confusing the heck out of the audience. But from there, it was non-stop action!
  • Shichimi performed one song, then came the intros, with Kiiyan last. And then the first KenPro song, Voice for Yell. Kyaaaa, so much to see all over the stage — Hayashi Yuu, Anri Katsu, Yonaga Tsubasa, Sato Takuya, Konishi!, Saiga!, Kiiyan!!
  • Screen Mode were first up with a fun, rockin’ set.
  • After Screen Mode came Sato and then Abe. I think Sato has been taking lessons on how to handle a microphone stand from Kiiyan.
  • Next was Yonaga, who was adorable.
  • Konitan and Seki were just wonderful. I’d love to see a full length show with these two dorks. They needed to see the lyrics for their songs, so staff brought them out music stands with little lights. At first it seemed like they would just stay in one place, so they could see the lyrics, but no…. When it came time to visit the sides of the stage, they picked the stands up and carried them. Seki was holding his in one hand at an angle (much like you might dip a dance partner). At at one point, inevitably, the stand ended up between his legs. And of course Konishi followed suit. In between songs they talked. Well, mostly Seki talked. And he talked so much that he eventually wound up by saying “I imagine you’re all here to see Granrodeo, but…” And then they started the second song. KenPro president Utsumi Kentaro joined them on stage to rap. He seems positively tiny next to Konitan (shorter than Seki even).
  • Next up was Anri Katsu, who I’ve wanted to see perform for years. So glad to finally see him. His live voice is quite nice, so now I really want to see him perform more. He did one song on acoustic guitar with the band, and then switched to bass for the song he wrote with Kiiyan and Hayashi Yuu. When they came out, Kiiyan joked about how much Seki talked … and then proceeded to talk, talk, talk. Heh. The song was great, and Kiiyan was a ball of fire on stage. I’m not sure Hayashi’s voice works too well with Kiiyan and Anri, but the latter two sound really, really good together. More, please!
  • Then Anri was joined by Seki, Inoue Kazuhiko and Mika Kanai to sing one of the songs that the Seiendan Charity group they were a part of after the 3/11 quake had sung. It was quite lovely. My first time seeing Kanai, who is absolutely adorable. Her speaking voice is a bit high for me, but her singing voice isn’t that way at all.
  • Yonaga and Screen Mode came next, singing the Love Stage OP. Good combo!
  • And then … I spazzed out as the opening bit for Zetchou Spiral started. Shine was confused by my flailing until she saw Kiiyan and Saiga come in on the back of the stage (which was raised behind the drum sets). Oh man. I had never thought I’d hear this song again after the BMR lives. I was absolutely thrilled, and they were fantastic, of course.
  • After that, Saiga sang a song with Sato and Abe, followed by a young, up and coming seiyuu, Hatanaka Tasuku, singing a duet with Hayashi Yuu. Their voices work really well together! Hatanaka then had a solo song, joined by two dancers. Then came the announcement of his first album release (Lantis, of course) and an appearance at this summer’s 10th anniversary OrePara event.
  •  And then came Saiga’s set with Nishioka. Aaaaaaaaah, I adore these two so much. I’ve been a fan of Nishioka’s for longer than anyone else on the stage, Seki excluded, and Saiga is a queen among female seiyuu. It was so, so good to hear her singing multiple songs. I dearly wish Just would come back, but it doesn’t seem like that’ll happen, alas.
  • In between JUST and GR, they played a video (while setup was happening on stage) about KenPro’s history, very tongue in cheek, until it came time to honor the founder, Utsumi Kenji. It ended by showing all 190 current seiyuu that are with the agency.
  • So, remember I said there were 4 impeccably dressed young women in front of us. At some point during the video, the one in front of me disappeared. Leaving me with no one between me and the stage. I’m sorry she had to miss the last bit of the show, but lucky for me!
  • Kiiyan sounded amazing, as always. And he was super energetic. During this set and the earlier one with Anri/Hayashi, he kept taking flying kicks at the camera (which was on rails in front of the stage). Luckily for all involved, he didn’t get close to actually connecting with it.
  • And oh the sexy hip action. ^_^
  • e-zuka kept the puns in check, but when he did his usual intro “___ baby!” he had folded up the event towel to the logo of Utsumi Kenji’s face and used a different voice for each call. He claimed he was using “character voices.”
  • ナミダバナ gets better each time. It’s so very good live. Same with Pierrot Dancin’.
  • It was nice to get to rock out to Rose Hip-Bullet without fear of being pummeled by the folks around me.
  • And aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, the collab version of Can Do. All the guests came back out, and Saiga, Hayashi and Yonaga had main singing parts along with Kiiyan. Saiga was right next to Kiiyan and he was framing her, showing her off while she sang. So effing amazing! Shichimi were the cheer girls, off to the side with pompoms.
  • Btw, I may have misremembered some things happening in the final song and some during the encore. Hopefully I have them mostly straight.
  • For Song of K.E.N.P.R.O. Utsumi-san was back on stage, along with a bunch of the younger KenPro seiyuu, including Inagawa Eri (Cyan in Show by Rock). Some guys behind us were REALLY big fans of one of the young female seiyuu. As my friend Nancy pointed out later, though, in trying to call attention to themselves, that may have backfired, since we were between them and the stage and probably deflected part of the attention away from them. Heh.
  • Kiiyan joined everyone on stage after a couple of minutes, having changed into the KenPro event t-shirt, but one that had been artfully cut so the sleeves were fringe instead of actual sleeves.
  • Everyone had the KenPro king’s blade light stick, turned to pink. When Kiiyan came out, he and the guys he had to walk past to get to the middle spent a few seconds … touching light sticks. I know they weren’t being lewd, but damn, it felt that way. Heh.
  • Utsumi-san asked us to turn our lights to pink too, but some folks were rebels and did blue or green, causing Anri’s end of the stage to teasingly fuss at them.
  • Each of the young seiyuu got to introduce themselves before the song, including Hatanaka and Inagawa.
  • I think it was during this song that Konitan, Kiiyan, Yonaga, Anri and Shichimi went to the back to the stage, above the drums. Yonaga shoved Kiiyan further to the left (as you face the stage) to make room for Shichimi in the middle. And after that, Anri shoved Yonaga into the middle of Shichimi, and made him sing there. So Yonaga and Shichimi started making up cute choreography. Meanwhile, Kiiyan and Konitan are looking at something to the far side or off the stage….
  • When they came back out for the encore, Kiiyan and Sato were in the middle, in front of me. And before things started, they decided to compare biceps, flexing their arms and holding them up together. At which point I kind of lost it and started blowing a gazillion kisses at them, which amused them both, particularly Sato.
  • Lots of teaming up to sing together, arms around shoulders (Kiiyan + Konitan, kyaa!) and generally having fun.
  • At one point, Kiiyan left center, went all the way to the far right (as you’re looking at the stage) to mug for the camera there.
  • When it came time for the final bow, Kiiyan still had his light stick in one hand, so … decided his mic should go between his legs. I couldn’t help it, I yelled “Dame desu!” No idea if he heard me, but he did remove the mic … for a minute. Then back it went. (I should be grateful he didn’t put the pink, glowing light stick there). Apparently Seki did the same thing, but Inoue fussed at him about it. Heh.
  • And after that final bow … bless you Kiiyan, he stepped forward, grinned, and gestured to Nancy and me. He said something, but I have no idea what, since he didn’t have the mic at that point. I can surmise he was commenting on seeing  us last week at the J:COM live.
  • And then … well, let’s just say Kiiyan re-enacted one of our first encounters, at the Women Only show in 2014, the one where he visually commented on my, ah, bounciness. Made me laugh, especially since he was still juggling empty air and talking to himself as he turned to walk to the side of the stage. Always glad to entertain you, Kiiyan! ❤❤❤
