Event Report: 「GRANRODEO LIGHT MY FIRE」Recording, 10/19/13

Studio Spain Zaka Ticket

The day I flew out to Tokyo, GR Staff announced the public radio recording on that Saturday. I’d had a full day planned, but tossed it all in favor of getting a ticket — how many other times would I have a chance to see Kiiyan and e-zuka record a radio show?!?

Since tickets were to be given out at 10, my friend and I decided I should get there on one of the first trains and try for two tickets, since she would be getting to Tokyo half an hour before the show started.

So I was up well before the sun and on my way to Shibuya. Grinned like a fool when I saw the billboard at the scramble crossing, grinned even wider when I found the Parco side entrance with the cafe sign … and then chuckled to myself as I found my people — insane Rodeo Girls — sitting up against the Studio Spain wall. I got there at 5:50 and was 14th in line.

Four hours went pretty quickly, all things considered, and right at 10, they handed out the passes — one per person, alas — and told us to come back later. I bugged staff twice, once to make sure we were lining up in the same place (yes) and to see if I could pretty please get a ticket for my friend, since over half were left after the line emptied (alas, no, although he sure thought about it; he said she would have to take her chances when she got in to Tokyo.).

Then I ran off to have lunch at the Shirokuma Cafe, go shopping at the Granrodeo corner at Kotobukiya (yay, replacement for my Crack Star Flash bracelet, which was missing the star, and a Rolling the Scar Lemon charm). Wandered back to the studio around 2ish and idly noted that the doors to the studio were open and people were watching through the window. This was my first inkling that we might be standing outside, but thought that they still might be seating us inside.

Killed some more time in Starbucks, then readied to line up a little before 4. My friend got there right after 4 and landed ticket 202! So, we wouldn’t be together, but she’d get to listen. Excellent!

A little after 4:30, the line moved into the studio and … I realized we couldn’t all possibly fit in the space available.

Studio Spain Zaka

For /this/ is the studio. Kiiyan and e-zuka were behind that glass, and we were outside, around that hand railing — only the doors were pulled around us, so you couldn’t see us or the guys.

I was right at the bar, just to the right of the middle post. I was right by e-zuka, and in Kiiyan’s direct line of sight (so yeah, he would’ve had to have had his eyes closed not to see me. Heh.) They were each sitting at a white desk, facing one another (below: Kiiyan was on the left, e-zuka on the right). e-zuka was in a white shirt, black pants and black shoes, playing an unamped electric guitar. The girls two over from me had something on a tablet that they wanted him to see, so he got up and came over, which meant suddenly my entire field of view was E-ZUKA. Just a handful of inches away, but behind glass…

Studio Spain ZakaKiiyan was wearing a dark shirt, dark jeans, dark tennis shoes and a dark jacket that was pure Kiiyan:  it was covered in mouths, some with their tongues sticking out (not unlike the old Stones logo). He also had on a HUGE pair of brown sunglasses, because the lights in the studio were brutally bright. Both of them looked awesome!

They introduced themselves and the show and they mentioned that the title is indeed from The Doors song. Kiiyan stated where they were recording, only turning it into Studio Spain … Zoo! That must be exactly what it feels like behind the glass, on display to squealing, excited young women…. They chatted briefly about the fan club, the YokoAri shows, and then Kiiyan asked e-zuka to explain why kind of music they play. e-zuka responded: “Rock. Your father and mother’s music.” Ha!

And right before they shooed us away for the next group and mad waving took place, Kiiyan looked my way and nodded. Happy, happy Rodeo Girl! O(≧∇≦)O イエイ!!  I wanted to respond back in some fashion, but all I could do was wave along with everyone else as they ushered us out as The Other Self started playing.

I hung out with my friend until her turn … and I could probably have done in with  her, since they weren’t checking pass numbers. But neither of us thought of that until afterward. I found out a bit more about the process from  her — everyone was instructed to respond appropriately — cheer, clap, be quiet, etc. And we were allowed to run to the end of the line to see if any passes were left.

So … it was only about three minutes, but it was a pretty awesome three minutes, listening to the two of them chat. Would I get up before 4 again to get tickets? No, but maybe by 6? Heh. Now that I know the process and that it’s not so much that you get a low number as that you get a good place when your group is let in (And that varies by person. Some clearly wanted to be close to Kiiyan or e-zuka. Others of us wanted to be seen /by/ them. So it worked out.) I wouldn’t get up so early, but would definitely aim for a ticket, if given another chance.

The actual show airs on 11/4. I know there’s video footage of them, but I’m not sure what happens to that. Or of the pictures taken of the fans.
